One week later

I woke up this morning and went immediately to the terrazza (terrace) to look out at the Arno river and see the top of the Palazzo Vecchio. I love being able to get a glimpse of my city in the morning. On Sundays, there aren't many people outside and the city is rather quiet, so it's a true pleasure to be up on the terrazza to look out at the parts of the city that I can see.

It has been a week since I moved into my apartment and I am truly enjoying it. I have settled in very nicely and it feels like home for me. I love looking out at the Arno river and seeing people from my windows. It feels like I am more a part of the city than in my other two apartments where I felt a bit secluded. They were rather quiet and very nice, but I felt like I was always hiding out in my apartment. In my new place I can open my window to take in the city. I can feel it pulsate all around me and now no longer without me.

I also love living so close to the centro storico (historical downtown area) with the Uffizi only a short block away. I can see San Niccolò from my apartment and now it seems much closer. Before, it always seemed far to me even though it was only a 20 minute walk.

The street perpendicular to my street is via dei Neri where there are a lot of shops, McRae Books (where they sell English books), and my favorite gelateria (ice cream store). Santa Croce is only a stone's throw away so I can also go to my mercato di Sant'Ambrogio (Sant'Ambrogio market) easily from my apartment.

I haven't found any inconveniences yet about living here. It has only been a week since I moved in, but I feel that I am finally home. I'm living in a place that makes me happy and feel at peace.
