After last night's heavy storm, we woke up this morning to clear blue skies and warm temperatures. For most of the day, the sun was shining on our city. As the sun set this evening, I went out to our terrazza (terrace) and took this picture. I caught it at the right moment because just a few minutes later when Dave joined me, the sun continued to set and the sky became a little darker.
We find ourselves going to enjoy the veduta (view) from our terrazza. As soon as it gets a little warmer, we are planning on staying out longer on our terrazza to take all of Florence in.
For now, we spend a few moments out on the terrazza and look out onto the piazza below. It's amazing to look out onto our beautiful city, to see the rooftops of the buildings nearby, and to spot the top of a few of my favorite churches.
It's also fun to watch people walking outside in the piazza. I sometimes watch parents pick up their children at the scuola materna (elementary school) in Lo Spedale degli Innocenti building, which is across from ours.
I never thought I would enjoy our terrazza as much as I do. At our old apartment, we had a terrazza, but it was in between buildings, so we could only see into our neighbor's apartments. I didn't know how great it would be to have a terrazza that looks out onto the city. Who would've thought that a simple terrazza would give us so much pleasure?
