It’s the beginning of summer and I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the window and the thunder growling in the distant. I looked at my phone and saw that it will be rainy all day. In Florence, however, it is hot and sunny. This year, the weather has been odd. Maybe not just in Paris, but also in other parts of Europe When I was in Florence in May, it was a little cooler than it normally is in spring.
When I was in California, the weather was almost too predictable. Almost every day, I woke up to clear skies and mild temperatures. It was pleasant, but I missed the clouds.
Ever since I moved to Florence, the clouds are what I’ve come to appreciate most. Sometimes in the summer, they hang low in the sky and are sometimes perfectly formed. I love looking at them especially when the sun is behind them and they are outlined in gold. They always remind me of how heaven is depicted in many paintings I’ve seen in the Uffizi.
To me, Florence is heaven. It’s my soft place to fall, my heart’s home, and my nest where I can regenerate.
The pitter-patter of the rain falling from the sky this morning is comforting in an odd way to me, but I’d like to see the blue sky and fluffy clouds as well as feel the sun caress my face. I hope that my next trip to Florence will afford me the luxuries of summer that I’m not yet experiencing.
