And so, today August 1st marks the beginning of Summer here in Italy. Most of my Italian friends sent me emails on Friday wishing me buone vacanze (a good vacation). So many people seem to be taking part or all of the month off. And I've already noticed how much quieter the city is.
Many shops and restaurants have signs up with the dates that they'll be closed in August. While my in-laws have been here, we've had to make sure to get reservations at all of our favorite restaurants before they close for the Summer break.
Almost anything I want to do, like do yoga or go to the gym, will have to wait until September. When everyone is back. I'll be here enjoying the peacefulness of the city as much as possible and going away for at least a week just because it's Summer.
