Embracing my life

I love my life. That's what came to my mind as I was riding my bici (bike) along the Arno after leaving San Niccolò this afternoon. It has been a gray day with intermittent rain, and still I am just so happy. Those four little words, which arrived at the same speed as the cool wind against my face, filled me with so much giddiness that I thought I'd lose balance and fall off of my bici.

As I was riding my bici, I looked out at the top of the Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio, and the multitude of buildings of all different sizes and colors along the Arno river and I felt that I have finally found my place in the world.

I am so fortunate to love and be loved by a man I cherish, respect and admire, to have friends who are supportive, loving, and kind, to be in good health, to have the opportunities to make a living, and to meet new people who share their lives with me and end up enriching mine.

I don't think in my whole life that I have ever felt as happy, satisfied, and appreciative of my life as I do in this moment.

Maybe it's not a coincidence that today is Thanksgiving Day in the US. It is one of my favorite holidays because it is the only day we have where we can truly give thanks for all the people in our lives, all that we have, and all that we have become.

I try to thank all of the people I know as often as I can. And, now I'd like to also thank all the people who take the time out of their day to read my blog and who may or may not ever contact me. You have encouraged and inspired me to continue writing, and I am grateful.

What started out as my desire to write about my life in Florence has now become a way for me to express my love for my beloved city and all the ways that it touches me. I thank you all and I wish you all much love, joy, and peace in your lives.
